V1 Single Vibrator Acquisition

V1 combines proven HPVA technology with single vibrator operations to deliver an industry-leading solution for high-performance slip-sweep vibroseis acquisition.

High-density, wide-azimuth V1 data provide finer sampling of the wavefield without source array effects for superior high-resolution imaging and improved structural delineation.

Features

  • High-density, wide-azimuth vibroseis acquisition
  • Finer wavefield sampling
  • Improved sub-surface illumination
  • Point-source acquisition removes all source-array effects, especially source anisotropy
  • Proprietary fleet management and recording technology
  • HPVA removes slip-sweep harmonic noise

Benefits

  • Point-source data for superior high-resolution imaging.
  • High-density, wide-azimuth data for:
    - Improved illumination and imaging
    - Improved ground roll and multiple attenuation
    - Fracture characterization
    - Reservoir characterization
  • Unparalleled slip-sweep vibroseis performance

Single Vibrator Operations

Successful single vibrator operations have been made possible by CGGVeritas’ development of high-productivity vibroseis technologies and techniques:

  • Proprietary source synchronization system can support large number of single vibrator fleets.
  • Advanced fleet management with real-time monitoring to optimize efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Patented HPVA technique enables high-quality data recording with very short slip times and multiple fleets.

Data Quality

By using a single vibrator all source-array effects such as intra-array statics are removed to provide a dataset with less artefacts for high-resolution imaging.  Harmonic noise arising from slip-sweep operations is attenuated using CGGVeritas’ proprietary HPVA technique which deterministically models and removes the noise.

Source density and vibrator acquisition parameters are optimized during field trials to provide the desired balance between signal-to-noise and production rates.

The Single Vibrator Advantage

V1 has a wide range of operational advantages, in addition to the geophysical ones:

  • Improved source maneuverability and access in rough terrain or around obstructions.
  • Smaller source footprint in environmentally sensitive areas.
  • Lower energy per shotpoint reduces potential damage to infrastructure.
  • Improved HSE – reduced risk of collisions compared to multi-vibrator fleets.

North African Example

A field trial of V1 was performed during a survey in North Africa. The V1 data have been acquired at 4x the nominal density, but at a production rate equivalent to nominal density flip-flop acquisition. The V1 data provide a superior high-resolution image using exactly the same processing parameters, as shown below.

Standard vs. V1 Acquisition
Standard Acquisition: Shot spacing 300 x 50m V1 Acquisition: Shot spacing 150 x 25m
Equivalent production rate

In open desert, more than 600 shots per hour have been achieved with V1 operations using 12 single vibrator 'fleets', a figure unparalleled in the industry to date.
