Global 4D Inversion

CGGVeritas’ Global 4D Inversion enables more accurate and quantitative interpretation of production effects using 4D seismic data. It incorporates rock physics constraints in the simultaneous inversion of all available 4D vintages to reduce uncertainty and produce results which are more consistent with the observed production history of the field.

Global 4D Inversion can be cascaded with 4D Bayesian fluid classification to provide intuitive interpretation of the time-lapse evolution of fluid distribution and assess uncertainty in predicting fluid movements.

1992 Fluid Distribution

2003 Fluid Distribution

After 4D Global Inversion, 4D Bayesian fluid classification is applied to map the time evolution of hydrocarbon sand probability. In this North Sea reservoir the effects of oil production and water flooding are clearly seen in the map distribution of oil sand probability, allowing undrained hydrocarbon sands to be easily identified in the 2003 data. The images show the time evolution of oil sand probability for a reservoir layer close to the original 1992 oil-water contact.
