High-Productivity Vibroseis Acquisition (HPVA)

HPVA (High-Productivity Vibroseis Acquisition) overcomes harmonic noise problems associated with the slip-sweep technique to allow high-quality data acquisition with multiple vibrator fleets and short slip times.

As the demand for high-density and wide-azimuth data increases, HPVA enables slip-sweep vibroseis crews to increase performance and shot density while maintaining high production rates and high data quality.

Features

  • Patented deterministic modelling and removal of slip-sweep harmonic noise
  • High-performance, high-quality vibroseis acquisition:
    - Shorter slip times possible
    - More vibrator fleets can be deployed
  • Substantial productivity increase compared to flip-flop acquisition for typical desert operations

Benefits

  • Enables reduced slip-sweep acquisition cycle time
  • Enables increased resolution – higher fold or smaller bin size
  • Data quality superior to conventional slip-sweep
  • Extensive CGGVeritas high-productivity vibroseis experience

Comparison of a reference vibroseis shot record (left) to one acquired at the same location with the slip-sweep technique (centre). Harmonic noise contamination is clearly visible. After application of HPVA (right) the noise has been attenuated and the data quality is comparable to the reference.

The frequency spectrum shows the harmonic noise on the slip-sweep data is easily identified as the two red peaks.

These peaks are generated by harmonics from subsequent shots (n+1 and n+2).

After HPVA has been applied, the harmonic noise is removed and the amplitude spectrum matches the reference flip-flop record.
